Coaches Bonus

I am a huge fan of sports. I mainly watch sports on TV. I do not purchase tickets for games. I will go to games if tickets are for free or highly discounted. I am aware by me watching sports on TV I am still participating in the revenue portion for sports. I still think it is despicable on a lot of levels. Here I go again right!! I saw another article on how people and institutions are making money off the athletes. I am speaking on the NCAA. The article was informing on the
These head coaches are already making millions in annual salary already. This is bad enough because the kids’ tuition pays their salary and now their tuition is going to pay their bonuses. There is some irony here, you think!!
Don’t take me wrong. This is one of the most enjoyable things about NCAA is the sports. Not only for us as fans or alumni but for the students as well. It is great to watch I will say. This does not mean I have to over look or ignore my personal concerns on the money making lack of integrity in NCAA institutions. These
These articles are celebrating these head coaches for making such a
Some people think this rule is okay because a very small percentage of athletes make it to the professional level. Here is how people do not pay attention; the NCAA has commercials celebrating student athletes and mention how most of them will not make to professional sports but go on to other careers. This is disappointing and most of us are a part of the problem just like me.
bonuses the Final Four coaches have made and will possibly make for reaching the Final Four and possibly winning the championship. bonuses should be really really cheap. I say it should only be 1 -5% of their annual salary as a head coach. I say this while keeping in mind how Kansas State Jamar Samuels was suspended during the tournament for receiving $200. I do not like the rule on this and this such a small amount of money compared to what the head coach and school institution is making off this athlete that he should no where near be punished. This is ridiculous to snatch a kids dream over money he asked for to be able to feed himself. good amount of money off the performance of the team. These coaches are getting the praise for doing such a wonderful job and getting rewarded for such a job. I get that in scheme of things. What about the athletes who get nothing for their playing career at the universities? What are the universities giving to the athletes? The answer is nothing but a student loan debt to repay for a very long time. They also get their dreams snatched from them if they receive pennies from anyone. They cannot accept a good hot meal from someone. This is really pathetic to have as a rule.

What would you do?

Let’s paint a picture. Your child participates in a sport related game. This game involves separating teams. Meaning your child is on one team and there is an opposing team. Your child is involved in a foul committed towards a player on the opposing team. The player then retaliates against your child by fighting.
If it was my child, I would not press charges against another child unless the severity of the fighting was life threatening to my child. Reason I would not do that is because things happen in sports and unfortunately it is a part of the game or sport we risk by participating. I would say if you do not want your child to be assaulted then you would need to keep them in a bubble.
In an article I read today it was on the subject matter. The mother of the kid assaulted by the other teams’ player is prosecuting the high school student to the fullest extent of the law and wants her banned from playing soccer. What has this world came to prosecute a child and possibly ruin a life because of being overly protective in my opinion. I am not stating I do not have concerns on the
Not only do we hear about some sort of violence in sports, we see it on all levels weather is little league or
I have kids and I want the best for kid, I do not want them to be or experience fights and I want to protect them. I also have to understand and remember that some bad things are not completely bad and help to shape our children’s character. This is where we as parent should make sure we stay involved be talking to our kids to provide support to help them learn how to handle and cope with such situations because when they are grown and involved in an altercation, how do we expect them and how are they going to handle the situation? This is the question with a million different answers!
Would you press charges against the other child to the fullest extent of the law? violence involved in fighting or in sports today. I just feel we need to just prepare and discuss these options with our children to help them understand what may happen and allow them the ups and downs of participating in sports. We should embrace our child after being in an altercation and make sure they maintain a since of pride and continue with their journey of life. college or professional. Yes, their should be punishment to fit the crime but to prosecute a high school kid to the fullest extent of the law I feel is over baring a bit. We should allow the institution to implement the punishment for the offense. I have had to deal with such situations because I am a little league coach. I do not believe in fighting or all the cheap antics to sum it up in sports. I believe in sportsmanship and comradeship. Most organizations have rules in place for such situations and we should allow them the power they have. If we are not satisfied with the outcome; than we should appeal to the organization to ratify their rules possibly. To involve the legal system depends on the severity of the offense which in most cause is more damage to ones pride.

WHY

What is going on in this day and age? We are still in an age where we want to characterize people and commit horrific offenses and get away with it like it is no big deal. Really? I am not okay with this. I hope most of us have heard about the
The shooter,
Mr. Zimmerman is a neighborhood watchman who should have known proper procedure before shooting and killing a teenager. This is not the only incident under this Self-defense law better known as
I hope our law makers do not allow this to happen and ignore this issue because of a bad law. This is not the only situation in Florida from this law. There was a case in past where a
Trayvon Martin case in Florida. Our President has spoken out on this which to me is a very good thing. He makes the claim that if it was his son he would look like Trayvon Martin as a lot of our kids would. This kid in my opinion was profiled which is the tragedy of the whole scenario. I guess this is the danger of wearing a hoodie in this day and age, shame on Old Navy!! Old Navy brought the hoodie back as a fashion statement for kids plus a couple of other stores. But, my point is I guess hoodie are a bad thing now. George Zimmerman, said he was afraid for his life. He out weighed Trayvon by 100 pounds, was on phone making the 911 call to police who instructed Zimmerman to not follow Trayvon because he was following him. Why and how can you be afraid for your life and plead self-defense if you are the person following someone and scaring them? This is misuse of the Florida Self-Defense law which some lawmakers was highly against when it was passed under Gov Jeb Bush. This says a lot just on his name alone. Remember the election….hmmmm!! The Self-defense law allows for the person to claim self-defense when there is neither eyewitness nor evidence to support otherwise. In this issue since there is no supporting evidence, Zimmerman gets to state it was self-defense when he shot and killed an unarmed teenager with skittles and a canned beverage. 'Stand Your Ground' law. This law allows people who think they are being threatened to use deadly force without any efforts or thoughts to retreat from a confrontation. This law was passed in 2005 by a landslide. We know this situation is bad when our President Obama, Rev. Al Sharpton, news talk show hosts, and our communities come together to speak loudly and be heard that this law should not allow this man to walk free from committing a awful crime. This is my opinion. man shot into his neighbors house over an argument about a barking dog. The shooter thought his neighbor was reaching for something and shot several times into the house. Why would you carry a gun to ask someone to keep their pet quiet? This to me sounds like intent because you already have in your head to shoot for some reason. Intent on harming someone is a crime and should be added on to this law in order to prevent killers from going free for awful crimes such as Trayvon Martin.

Disappointment in NFL

I do not understand why someone would want to take food or money from someone family. You know they would not like it if it was done to them. What a selfish world we live in. I am speaking on the bounty issue with the NFL New Orleans Saints. This ruins the integrity of the sport on all levels.
Our government has other issues they need to worry about instead of trying to make this issue a federal crime. Maybe this is why our government has it country in the shape it is in; they focus on all the wrong things. Leave this matter to the league commissioner who think has handled this issue in house in a good way. Good job for once to the NFL commissioner! Whatever the government does is just wasting our taxpayer’s dollars because they cannot restore the integrity of the game no matter what they do. It is up to the NFL as a whole to restore the integrity.
Players of the Saints have rallied together to try to move forward with saying they are going to win it all next year. What else can you say? I hear you but it does not make it better or forgettable. I understand the focus to win and move on, but this is going to take awhile just like the "Spygate" issue with New England Patriots. We remember this situation and enjoyed all the puns directed at the Patriots staff and organization. I do not think we will hear too many puns on this bounty issue.
I would not want to intentionally harm another player and possibly end their career. We hear all the time about how player have no money when they leave the game for various reasons. We know the player committing the act would not like it if someone done it to them in return. I am sure they would have the same complaint of taking food off their table and money out of their pocket and away from their family.
The Saints have a saying of "
The punishment giving is just and fair. I was having a discussion with a co-worker who felt this punishment should not have included the head coach Sean Payton. That statement was surprising to me but he is the person in charge. He knew it was going on and takes his blame. Although Coach Payton apologizes it stills does not make this better. His punishment to be suspended for 1 year without pay is just. I will say the government needs to stay out of it. It’s our universe" and the NFL replied it is their universe now. Again, good job NFL with handing out the punishment to fit the acts of the Saints defensive players. Let’s keep the government out of the NFL and let the NFL handle the NFL! Hopefully we can have the NFL see them as human and start definitely thinking of us as fans and how we pay their salary.

Change is constant

Some people should be really thankful they have a job. Change is constant in the workplace especially with the condition of our economy. With change come different job duties and responsibilities. If you still have your job with the change be thankful you do. They can easily say we are going to cut back and implement layoffs. But people were able to keep their job. I was discussing this issue with a friend and it just came up from knowing about change is coming. Then you here people start mumbling and grumbling about the change. Be thankful you still have a job. People get so comfortable doing a nothing job that they forget about change may happen and always be prepared mentally for it. I think this will help with the change transition when it takes place.
All change is not graceful due to implementation process or the best. I still think you have to be thankful you didn’t lose your job. You still have a job and don’t like well start looking for employment elsewhere. It’s better to have a job and be looking for other employment than no job looking for employment. You still have a paycheck and benefits in most cases. Most paychecks are more than unemployment checks monthly. This is how I see it. I would be thankful and find me a positive to hold on to help me keep my job and just look for another if need be. We have that choice to leave and find another job. Exercise that choice instead of being disgruntle and loud complaining person about the job change. Keep it quiet or to yourself and do not be outspoken about it or post on social websites.
It is amazing to see what people post on social websites about their job. We hear how it can come back to hurt you and possibly cost you your job. This is why we should keep change in mind and have that outlook for our future. President change and so does the economy. We do what we have to when this happen so why is it so hard to do this with job duty and responsibility change. Again change is constant and we survive and deal with it and keep it moving.

Pointless Spending Maybe?

A story today caught my eye. It was about a guy in prison was able to collect unemployment checks. We know that is supposed to be impossible. Not in the state of California. This prisoner was actually getting three checks per week. This to me is what makes this whole issue crazy. How do you have three separate claims going in the same state and county and city? The prisoner had three people on the outside cashing his checks and giving him the money. Now guess who is going to be the one paying the price tag? It will be us the taxpayers.
I know we have a due process but in some situations it seems pointless to take a person to trial. Taxpayers end up paying the complete price tag. Something just doesn’t seem right in this situation. Don’t get me wrong, as I stated I know we have a due process. It just that sometimes it bothers me on the spending of our money as taxpayers. It seems very reckless at times. I know we have to take the three people to trial for cashing the checks and being part of the fraud. Then the prisoner who is already in prison for life has to go back to court wasting our tax dollars. He has a life sentence already so why are spending more money to convict him on another charge just to put it on record because it is not going to change his prison status.  We already paid for his initial trial. We will continue to pay for his prison housing for the rest of his life. Now we are going to spend more money to take him back to trial. Where is the common sense in this?
I say since he already has a life sentence, we have verified proof of the unemployment fraud; we should just charge him and keep it moving. Do not waste more taxpayer dollars to transport him back and forth to court, pay for him to have legal counsel and pay all court fees. His due process is done and streamlined to save taxpayer dollars. I know this is something that will never happen. It is just wishful thinking and frustration on how our tax dollars are continuously wasted. This part of the article is what caught my attention because it mentions taxpayers paying the cost. Yes we are paying it no doubt about it.

Cell phone

I got me a new phone finally. I got me another Android phone of course. I have a close friend who I got into a long discussion on cell phones. It is amazing how far we have come in the technology age.  Has any noticed how you do not see public pay phones like we use to? I can remember seeing pay phones just on a corner with no convenient store around or gas station.  Now you do not see them at that many places period.  This shows haw cell phones have changed the way we communicate. We have kids in grade school with cell phones. Has it gotten that privileged?  Cell phone is a privilege, not a necessity. We have made cell phones what they are. I will say I do not agree with young kids having cell phones. It gives us as parents more issues to handle with our kids. My kid is 18 and still has no cell phone.  This is not my only reason for not getting him a cell phone; it is a way for me to not have to worry about text messages being sent and what is said in them. This is just one of my few reasons.
Text messaging is what our youth is using as mainstream way of communication. This is where a lot of pictures and foul language are being exchanged. I chose not to deal with this issue by not getting him a cell phone. How do we communicate you ask? We do it the old fashioned way where he goes to the office to call me from school and from home so I can always know he home like he suppose to be. If I am wrong, I am wrong. He can get a job and pay for his own phone and learn responsibility by paying his own bill. One less argument I have to have by paying his cell phone bill for him while he has a good ole time having me spend my money for another bill he is creating for me. To avoid the issues, I chose to not be a part of the issues.
Some parents think by giving their kid a cell phone is how they can keep up with them. A cell phone can be anywhere our kids are not suppose to be and they just tell us to ease our minds they where we told them to be. How many parents are catching their kids in a lie? How many parents end up spending more money and tracking services to track their kids where about? This is what I mean by saying giving a kid a cell phone will cost me more money. I refuse to spend more than I have to. I want to teach my kid responsibility in a different way and not with a cell phone. Just my personal opinion and not aimed at anyone at all.
I just wanted to say I got me a new cell phone finally. I have to get it set up like I want. Load me some pictures on there of my family. See what applications I want to use on there. This is what I will be doing this weekend I guess. I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

His money!

Not much has happened this week to spark my interest. The story I did pay a little attention to was the Republican candidate race. I have not paid much attention to this race mainly because I am a Democrat. During my lifetime it has been very difficult to see the Republican side of a voting race. They Republican members have changed the face of the party. If you go back in history and see what the party was founded for and purposes was, you would be amazed! That is another story. It seems like the leading candidate even when he wasn’t in the lead has and is Mitt Romney. Is this really the best choice?
Although I am not a Republican, I bet they feel the same we as Democrats felt during the Al Gore Democratic campaign. We knew we still had no chance of winning that government race. We had to pick the best of the worse candidates just like the Republicans have to this year. Mitt Romney is a candidate who has constantly put his foot in his mouth but somehow is still in the race and a favorite. He has been in the lime light this week over money.
He keeps making statements about his money. I would have to agree that he is not in touch with the real issues of our economy. If he was I don’t think he would be making these comments about his own money and acting like economy is okay. To me it seems insensitive to make comments about his money in his campaign which has a huge focus on America economy. He knows he should not be making these comments but continues to make them. If people are really pushing for him to be the next President then what is they listening too? I wonder what his magical words are in his campaign, inquiring minds want to know!
This is amazing the shape our economy is in that it brings us to less than full confident decisions.  We all need to come together as best as possible to make our economy better. If we do not the future of our grandchildren is in the balance. Many issues are on us which will be pivotal to the success of our country. I see education as being as important as our economy. I think the decrease in our education system has dumb America down and has played part of decline in the economic edge in the world we use to have.  I do understand we have so many issues it will be overwhelming to whoever the President is if they truly had America in heart and mind. Do candidates want to be President to whole heartedly to better America pr the prestige of just being President like some Presidents we know in the past?

Old Age-NCAA tournament

We are in the month of March already, time has flown by already. I guess the old saying is true, “as you get older time goes faster!” As the days go by we get closer and closer to March Madness. Yes, I cannot wait. Although I love the madness of the game I do have some grips. My main grip is how the viewing of tournament games has disappeared from local channels during the week.
I remember sitting in front of the television and watching as many games I could on local television stations depending on where I was living at the time. At the age of 18 during my senior year of high school, I was working at one of the main hotels where the Final Four teams were staying during the 1988 NCAA Final Four. It was awesome!! I meet and seen my favorite team KU, sorry folks, also K-State and Oklahoma players. I remember how I could not wait to get home to turn on the TV to watch end of games and watch news to see highlights.
It seems like those days are long gone. Now it is all about the money. To watch the madness, starting last year you need to have cable or satellite to watch games. Games are broadcasted on TBS, TNT, TRU TV and CBS. I can say CBS is local in most areas, but it used to be the only station. All games were broadcasted on all day back to back nonstop until the sweet sixteen.  At this point viewers were able to watch games in their entirety for the remainder of the tournament. We still watched the games on local broadcasting channels. How good it was back then.
Money changed the whole way we can watch and enjoy March Madness. Now we have to go back and forth between channels or just watch the most interesting game to you. For me this has changed how I enjoy the game. College sports are still my favorite over professional, but it just like professional is really starting to disappoint me because of how everything is money driven. They say it increases the fan experience. Well it doesn’t for me! I do not like to switch among all the channels to try to watch a game. It makes you miss too much, whereas before you had no choice but to watch what was showing so you didn’t have that kind of a thought on missing something.  Now I try to watch as much of every game since they are available on multiple stations.
I want the old way back. I just being selfish, but at least it would erase my thought of college sports being all about the money and not the student athletes. I ranted already on how money is a huge influence in college sports now and the athletes are being used. Yes they are getting an education but they still have to pay for it while the school still profits.
I have to say I still will be watching the tournament again this year!
