NCAA Conference Alignment

It is something these days on what major college and universities are doing to make more money. I attended college back in early 1990's. Then, in the 90’s,  it was not a regular conversation to hear or part of a discussion schools moving to another conference to make more money. These schools have been and will continue to make millions of dollars off student athletes. I viewed part of the rivalry basketball game between KU vs. MU where the announcer made a statement on the catastrophe in college sports today allowing schools to move amongst conferences to make more money off of college sports.   This is a tremendous disservice to all student athletes. Why is this a disservice, you ask?

I can remember when I was in school and to get a little extra money was not a huge punishment offense like it is today. It seemed like there was more appreciation for an athlete’s hard work and dedication. But, we did have to go to class and maintain our grades on our own. Today is amazing how an educational institution acts like it is the utmost disrespect to the school for an athlete to get any of the monetary reward for their athleticism. Since the school did not get that money as well as the millions it get yearly off their athletes is the problem. Tuition is so high now and most students are not well off that it is hard to resist the temptation for some extra cash. How is it okay for school to make millions off a student athlete and demand money in the form of tuition from the same athlete? You say they get a full ride scholarship which is not true of all student athletes who are star performers in their sport.

Something should be done to help our student athlete in this situation. Schools need to be investigated to see exactly where all money is going. Although the information is public, who can look at all those transactions and really know where the funds are allocated and if it is 100% accurate. Whether you’re a star athlete or not schools should be obligated to those athletes more than what they are. Take for example all of the star athlete who have career ending as well as life altering injuries. What about them? Most of them are left with nothing because the school pulls their scholarship because there is no more money to be made off them. Then the student is left with no education, medical bills and a low end job. This happens all the time. For instance, if a student athlete is injured during or performing any activity or sport affiliated with the school, the school should be obligated to insure all medical expenses are covered by the educational institution.  On the other hand, it is okay for a school to change conference location to make higher revenue base off the student athletic programs for the school. Where is the love?  We are so sensitive to what a person says but we do nothing about this catastrophe in our educational system.
